Differentiated Instruction: Regular and Special Education

With the purchase of the manual, "Applied Differentiated Instruction in the pre-K–12 Classroom," you have formed a continuing relationship with Corn Associates. As a professional educator you can use the manual as a personal desk reference for applying differentiated instruction activities in the classroom, or to enhance your teaching skills and to apply differentiated instruction process in your school, or to train other staff in its use.

Corn Associates has additional consultation options that you can elect for expanded staff development in your district or individual school. Corn Associates instructional teams provide professional educators the opportunity for continuing in-service staff development concerning the application of differentiated instruction practices in the classroom.

Corn Associates believes that through building a close consultative relationship with educators in your district, staff development does contribute to greater student outcome performance in subject skill areas.


Differentiated Instruction Workshops Available

1. Introduction to Manual
(a two-hour workshop)

This workshop provides an overview of the principles and strategies of differentiated instruction and engages participants in a hands-on orientation to the manual.

Topics include:

  • What is differentiated instruction?
  • Critical elements of differentiated instruction
  • Strategies of applied differentiated instruction
  • Purpose of the resource portfolio
  • Organization of the resource portfolio
  • Utilizing this resource in your own classroom


2. Demystifying Differentiated Instruction

(five or six hours of training, i.e., an all-day 5-hour workshop, or two 3-hour workshops, or three 2-hour sessions)

This series addresses the principles and purposes of differentiated instruction and examines specific strategies for differentiating instruction and assessment in the classroom.

Topics include:

  • What is differentiated instruction?
  • Theories underlying differentiated instruction
  • Critical elements of differentiated instruction
  • Strategies of applied differentiated instruction
  • Using technology for differentiated instruction
  • Integrating standards, curriculum, performance and technology
  • Differentiated assessment of student progress
  • Instructional accommodations for successful differentiation
  • Utilizing this resource portfolio in your own classroom


3. Applying Differentiated instruction
(ten hours of training scheduled to meet client's needs)

In addition to topics in the aforementioned workshop, participants will examine management of the differentiated classroom, utilizing a variety of instructional models, and create plans for their own differentiated classrooms.

Topics include:

  • What is differentiated instruction?
  • Theories underlying differentiated instruction
  • Critical elements of differentiated instruction
  • Developing a common core of knowledge with the students
  • Strategies of applied differentiated instruction
  • Using technology for differentiated instruction
  • Integrating standards, curriculum, performance and technology
  • Differentiated assessment of student progress
  • Instructional accommodations for successful differentiation
  • Managing the differentiated classroom
  • Preparing students and parents for the differentiated classroom
  • Resources for teachers of differentiated classrooms


Other in-service models can be developed to fulfill the individual in-service professional development needs of your district, individual school(s), or specific special education program(s).

Train-the-trainer model can be developed to meet district or school needs.

The options for staff professional development as described above will be developed in a proposal that specifies the district or school conceptual needs for staff in-service training.
